Hello again, I've been trying to find an easier way to distinguish Doubled Dies on wheat pennies, and trying to catch an abnormality by the eye is the route I'm currently taking on these Wheaties as a preliminary check.

I checked Variety Vista and it did not have an eyelid that looks like this.

Here are some pics of the coin:

Just an aging die struck your coin, and the battle scars of the circulation war are showing on the coin. circulation flattening does make it a doubled eye lid. A DDO would rise above the fields/devices as a raised area. Not an incuse mark.

Just like we see spread on a doubled die, the affected areas should be enlarged or show a raised area. Just not seeing that on your coin.

I see, so it's a double eyelid, just from an aging die. Thanks for the informative pictures coop!

Actually no. The extra eyelid is a hub issue. The first strike of the hub was not in the correct position. On the second hub process the eye lid that was not in the correct position, doesn't get erased by the correct strike, because the first one is set deep into the die on that area. The normal area isn't that shallow, because it isn't, then it doesn't get erased. Thus the eyelid remains and you have 2 or more in place where the design is not at deep. Die wear does show on that area but on this image, it is a bit lower than the eye area:

See the lines are at the wrong angle to be a doubled eyelid. Just flow lines on the shallow area of the die. (almost the same level as the fields)

@coop, ahh I see, so it's a hub issue that caused the double-looking eyelid and not an aging die, gotcha.
