The sure clue that the coin was altered?
Note the rim that was on the outside edge of the coin, is now pushed inwards on this coin? That rim when struck was on the outside edge of the coin. Thus moved, it proves the coin was altered post strike. If it were a straight clipped planchet, it would not have that mark on that area of the coin.






Why would that area be missing from the planchet?

It would occur when the clipping of the blanks were over the edge of the stock material.
