I'm new to coin hunting and came across this penny. It looks like the zinc was pulled off and got stuck to die then stamped opposite side and left imprint of E's and part of C. I'm not familiar to the process of coin stamping. Here are some pictures that I tried getting. Some are with my phone then I also took pictures of my coin magnifying screen. Sorry about quality.
It is glue that someone has pressed another coin into. That is why the lettering is in reverse and incuse. Give it a 24 hr soak in acetone and it should disappear
Soaking in acetone is not considered cleaning coins. It is a common method of removing things such as glue I soak most of mine after I receive them to remove any oil or residue Just make sure it is covered and in a well ventilated area.
Ok, I'll soak it and see what happens. Not sure how anyone could remove zinc with just glue though. If it doesn't come off then what does that tell me?
That's what it was GLUE! Thought I might have had something! Oh well that's why I joined this forum...to get professional opinions! Guess I'll keep searching!
