Hi

Before I take a bunch of pics. that most likely will not
even be close up enough shots, I have this AU+ 78-S with the following
attributes: Parallel arrow feather, 4th star point broken, broken R in trust, engraved wing feather, almost square S mint mark.
Should I bother to look any furthur on this ?

Thank's

That depends on what you're looking to do. Do you want to attribute the VAM? Then you have to look further. Are you just trying to identify if it's a VAM with added value? Maybe still.

Oh O.K.
I was trying to attribute the VAM if any ?
I only look at the top 100 listed ones anyway.
I did find that the coin seemed to be in that 1 of 4 different
"Whacky Feather" (was that the correct designation :) type but the broken R in trust did not make sense. I guess then what I am looking
to do is find out if I should look furthur with just these 4 listed attributes to see if it is a top 100 VAM or just let it go if these
4 attributes do not make it one.

Thank's

The only Top 100 1878-S Morgans are the Long Nock varieties; if yours has the standard shorter center nock on the arrow, it isn't Top 100.

However, there's also the Hot 50 and the Hit List 40...

You need a dose of VAMworld.

Indian,

If you are looking for a pricey treasure, then the attributes you've listed would DQ that coin from this category. High ticket 78-S coins include all of the long nocks mentioned by SuperDave, plus the VAM 18, 22, 50, 76, and 77. None of these have the combo of broken 4th right star, broken 'R' in trust and engraved wing feather.

On the other hand, congrats on decoding the 78-S search parameters. You've hit on the primary keys for this year and mint.

Thank you all. That was the site I started to do my search at.
I thought the hit 40 and hot 50 were a part of the top 100 vams.
By the way, Funky Feather was what I mean't. It had the attributes
for one of those but the broken R did not fit it. My other 78-p is a long knock but not this S.

If your Long Nock is in the same grade as this one, you've got a coin of sizable value there.

I'm a third-shifter, and I have to get ready for work, but now that you've posted (nice!) scans, I'll see if I can help attribute this one in the morning.

I'd like to help with attribution, but I can't see the scans. I've mentioned this before. From my M-F daytime location (work) they block photo-hosting sites (photobucket, villagephotos, etal). And for all of you who are saying "Hey get to work" ... I pop back here during slack time.
