Another rediculous result from PCGS..and before people comment about PCGS being more generous, I will say this coin really does deserve the 68..it is flawless and as struck aside from the toning. It is also the deepest cameo I've seen and should have received DCAM..but given it's the finest known regardless, that isn't as big of an issue to me. Like the PL69 dollar I posted..I'm at a loss for how to evaluate such a coin and would appreciate commentary from collectors and some of the more experienced dealers we have lurking around. Feel free to call me Will.

Confused. If it does deserve the 68 as you say, then why is this a ridiculous result?

Extremely nice dime. Don't know why it didn't get Deep Cameo though, its frosty for sure.

Beautiful coin! Should have been DCAM. Was it in a previous holder?

@coinfrog I meant rediculous as in unbelievable, really good...but not like it's a bad thing. Even when you are confident in a coin's quality sometimes you get scared they won't grade it how it deserves..i waited 4 months for a grade and was worried I'd need to send it back if they got it wrong. This is especially true with Canadian.. many coins in this sub were graded both too high and way too low.

I think it didn't make DCAM because of the toning

Great coin indeed. I'm biased towards ICCS, so keep that in mind when I say the following..... PCGS graded high grade PL Canadian coins never get the value they represent on the slab.

It didn't get the DCAM because the reverse designs are not frosty enough.
Nice coin.

That is one heck of a coin Will! Quite the WOW Factor . Surely the first or second piece struck from the Dies. I agree that it looks almost Specimen like . Any idea on the original source ? Was it in a so-called mint set ( Card board and Cello ) or a Red RCM presentation box?

Based on his last sentence, I think what he's looking for is an idea of value in case he decides to sell it. When you have a solo finest anything it's always a bit of a guess as to actual value. So let's give Will our best guess on value! :)
I agree with SPP. I think the reverse, particularly the part of the sails next to the date, are what help it back from DCAM. The obverse certainly looks strong enough to DCAM on it's own. ICCS would have easily given it UHC. PCGS requires both sides to be equally frosty to get DCAM from them.
My guess: $700-1,000 Cdn. If you find someone who wants exactly that then they will likely be willing to pay more. CAM instead of DCAM will affect their thinking a little I'm sure, but it is the only 1953 PL68 for now. With so few of these high grade dimes out there it really is a guess though. You could make an argument for both lower and higher values than that. My 2 bits.
