Metal detecting finds. Both same year, 1808 or 1809 if I am not mistaken? Found in a field in England, are they Egyptian? Pretty sure they are real gold.

Commonly found holed, most probably for bridal head adornment in a traditional Turkish wedding.

@toby, I have no doubt that the surfaces are gold, but do you think they might be plated over a base metal?

Pretty sure they are solid gold, I've handled lots of gold before and they weigh correctly to known examples. These are a friends that he wanted identifying.

I'm pretty sure these are actually replicas - the designs aren't quite as detailed as genuine examples. They might be real gold, but the vast majority of these "jewellery replicas" are not. Example: the date on these coins is supposed to be "1223, Year 28". But the date on the larger coin on the right (as is true for may of the jewellery replicas) is blundered, saying rather "1222 year 78". Many of the Arabic letters are also missing pieces. Just do a forum search for "year 78" and you'll find numerous other examples of jewellery-replica Ottoman coins. The smaller one on the left might be genuine; it's certainly much better rendered. But I would want to know why it doesn't have the milled or serrated edge seen on the NGC example.

I agree that the one on the right is not a real coin. Quote: Ottoman empire Cedid and half Cedid. 1877 I think! Please correct me if wrong. I searched every arabic country!

Jeweler's imitations. The coin on the left is legible but a bit off. The inscriptions on the coin on the right are gibberish.
