Hey folks,

I have a Buffalo nickel that the entire date is not visible but rather the last 2 numbers(even they are faint)

It is basically deduced what the date is.

Is this enough to get a straight grade?

Thanks!

@numis, since other aspects besides the date go into the grading and whether a coin comes back in a body bag, can you please add to this thread pics of a sample nickel with this level of wear? Thx.

I meant just regular numerical grade with date rather than "dateless"

To me if a buff nickel has even a faint but identifiable date it should be gradeable even though it would be a low grade. These nickels you are describing must be of the pre 1930 years which were on a pedestal. There might be some specimens out there that might grade VFish and have a faint/weak date to them.

i agree with mrwhatisit that if the date can be determined then coin should be able to be graded. whether or not it would grade straight cannot be determined by that however
