@New1954: Thanks for the info! Quote: 5 ounce pure silver reverse gold plated coin 10th anniversary to the Farewell to the Penny Mintage 1500 $599.95 NO GST/HST I find it humorous to see the Mint release a commemorative coin to mark the 10-year anniversary of a commemorative coin that marked the last year of production for Canada's circulating One Cent coin - and to use a five-ounce silver coin to do it! (It's a far cry from the former circulation one cent coin!)

If you a fan of the classic Maple Leaf, you are probably interested in this year's super incuse Maple Leaf. Last year's super incuse maple leaf was very popular. This year's silver version has increased both price (from $119.99 to $139.99) and mintage (from 6,000 to 7,000). I'm curious to see its popularity this year.

Quote: I find it humorous to see the Mint release a commemorative coin to mark the 10-year anniversary of a commemorative coin I am not quite as charitable... In 2032, will we get the 20th Anniversary of the last penny or the 10th anniversary of the 10th anniversary of the last penny. This is the same as Hollywood re-making classic movies from the past and reinforces the belief of a significant creative drought. I find the "Renewed" $1 and 50c series to be another symptom of this creative drought. I am just surprised that we didn't get a 10th anniversary of the Murano Ladybug last year since it was a popular coin back in 2011. There have been some very good designs and some not so good designs recently.. I liked the Bill Reid $2 and the $1 Equality not so much but they both had the benefit of being fresh and new. Yet another a maple leaf... for heaven's sake (I self edited that). Canada is more than maple leaves, cougar, and eagles. One thing I like about the US ATB series is that there is a breadth of design. In Canada we showed that with the 1992 provincial quarter series and even the 1999/2000 millennium quarter series. Simple, affordable new designs are all that the RCM needs to keep folks engaged and to engage new participants in the hobby.

I try to find humor in the absurdity of many of the Mint's releases. These days, the majority of the Mint's new releases don't appeal to me. But rather than get upset about them, I move on and wait for a more traditional/historically-themed coin that matches by collecting interests. Based on the number of new issues produced, it seems there's a definite market for the non-traditional material. As the Mint's goal is to be profitable, it is going to produce what it believes will help it achieve same. I buy what makes sense for my collection, and hope others enjoy collecting the pieces on which I pass. To each his/her own!

Quote: I buy what makes sense for my collection, and hope others enjoy collecting the pieces on which I pass. To each his/her own! I agree with this sentiment and it is how I explore the hobby... That said, I do have a longer term concern for the hobby as if the various mints don't cultivate new entrants to the hobby, then it will ultimately go the way of collecting horse brasses... that is a fringe activity shared only by a few. I actually really like what the US Mint has done over the past two decades with the very accessible and long running quarter and dollar coin series. With everything published well in advance... the ATB series seems to have hit all the marks engaging circulation strike collectors, NCLT collectors with the proof issues and bullion collectors with the 5oz hockey puck sized bullion issues. I also like the idea that it was multi-year. If the RCM has a Multi Year issue it is one coin per year... The Lunar series is probably the most enduring... If it is cross country... it is done in a year as in the 1992 Provincial quarters... I liked the $350 Gold Provincial coin series but it was unaffordable for most at over an ounce of gold each. I also recall the frustration voiced by many when the very popular Loon Bird Specimen series was ended and replaced with the Endangered Species series in 2020... Yeah still a specimen but the focus changed without prior announcement... I would be afraid to commit to a series from the RCM because you just don't know when it will end. In straight copycat mode from ATB... There are 48 National Parks in Canada and a multitude of Provincial and Territorial parks... If you released a National Park quarter every month it would take 4 years to release all of them... Make them readily available in circulation form and maybe a reasonably priced ($10) Silver Proof collectible version to engage newcomers to the hobby... Maybe even coopt the 2oz Bullion "Creatures of the North" model to reproduce the reverse design copying what the UK mint did with the Queen's Beasts series. Just an idea... I know the RCM needs to make money but you can either raise prices and sell few or drop prices and sell many... I ask why not both... an affordable series... with a long term commitment... would help bring in fresh eyes and wallets.

1 oz. Fine Silver Coin - Super Incuse Silver Maple Leaf - Mintage: 7,000 (2022)
I can't even purchase one as a diamond member after emailing my rep 2 minutes after the order list comes out... It's just totally inaccessible unless you buy it at a marked up price on the secondary market.

MickyMouse, if you are indeed Diamond level, you should have been given an advance notice of 7 days. If you didn't you should be talking to your rep to see what went wrong. In the meantime, Welcome to this Club. :)

Fine Silver Coin - Super Incuse Silver Maple Leaf - Mintage: 7,000 (2022) With a mintage of 7,000, it would be crazy if this coin is sold out now. I didn't see any limits on RCM and CC&C. Probably some ebay sellers bought lots of them? Also, I think CC&C and other official sellers will reserve some stock to sell later at higher price.

It's just totally inaccessible unless you buy it at a marked up price on the secondary market. I am a Prestige MC member and I had no problem ordering the coin. As a Diamond Tier MC member you should have received the earliest advance notice for new releases. The only reason I could think of is your rep forget to place your order. The notice for Diamond members came on Monday midnight. You should have gotten a notice from you rep on Tuesday that your order has been placed. Since you did not get such a notice you should have contacted your rep right away because the coins were still available Wednesday and your rep could have filled your order. Alternatively you could directly order from the website without going through your rep. New releases are available in the website a few hours after the advance notice. As such you could have ordered from the website on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hope is not lost for getting one for issue price through dealers. On Monday night this coin will be available at The Shopping Channel at Midnight eastern time. Also at 1:00 am eastern time at Gatewest Coins. You have to act fast as coins sell out at TSC in minutes.

The RCM don't have access to all 7000 coins because they have to spread the allotment among other dealers. It's anybody's guess what the RCM's allotment is. Suppose it is 50%, that mean 3500 coins. No surprise they went so fast because there was no limits on quantity of the silver incuse. There are probably thousands of Diamond, Prestige, and Platinum members so if a lot of people order more than 1 coin, they will go pretty fast. CC&C had no limit but sold out in first couple of hours. The Shopping Channel will have it available for issue price at midnight Monday. Also, Gatewest always allow people to buy at issue before jacking up the price. But you have to act fast.

Being a first time Platinum MC Member, up from the Gold level previously, I received my notice via email on Thursday morning at 9am. I then promptly ordered my silver 1oz. incuse. By early Thursday afternoon the 1oz silver incuse was already awaiting stock.
Last year I missed out on the silver 1oz. incuse from the RC Mint and had to purchase one from Gatewest coins.
So moving up a level to Platinum and also the mintage increase from 6000 to 7000 helped me obtain it from the Mint. I would prefer to buy from the Mint to maintain my MC Member level status.
My purchasing is down this year so far as I'm not very impressed with selection of NCLT products so far. I'm a traditionalist with coin collecting, if its not round and shiny I'm not into purchasing these items. The animal shapes and weird designs do not appeal to me.
