Hello,
I would like to grade an RCM nickel test token but the problem is that it is not listed. Do you have someone I can reach either at Charlton, Haxby or RCM to see what I can do? Louis Chevrier from CCCS referred me to SPP-Ottawa. Thanks for your help.

Pictures off both sides would certainly help.

I would start by posting here a photo and weight. It is entirely possible that you have an uncatalogued test token.

I am sure SPP can help on this. I recently sent him my unidentified one cent test token to XRF and its content matched that of another unidentified test token.

Here is a link to a previous string on it.

I don't think it is that important to have a new test token graded per se. What is more important is to have it identified, authenticated and then included in a catalogue.

It would also be good to test to see whether it is magnetic.

The token has a diameter of 32 millimeters and a weight of 15.5 grams.
Here the pictures:
It is magnetic.

By my most optimistic estimate, only 35 to 50% of the test tokens are catalogued. I have a good collection of pieces that, although reported, never made their way to the book.

And since I am taking my time to post, allow me to add that the list of patterns is even more incomplete.

Reasons abound.

By the size and weight, it looks like it was a test token for a 1 dollar coin.
Possibly removed from one of the test token sets of 2004 or 2006.

Looking further, it cannot be from one of those sets as they are the small dollar
but the size does meet the criteria for a dollar test token.

It may be earlier, maybe one of the various so-called test tokens the Mint produced as samples for the sales personnel (the best example of these 'not really' test tokens is the 10 piece strip of the 80-90's included on a green leather binder with a folder with description of all coins produced in that year - I donated mine, dated 1999-2000 to the Museum). Real test tokens of that size and weight have an engineering mark below the trifoil in the English side - I saw only 3, all different. Of course, duh, not in the catalog.

There is no test token listed with this diameter and weight in the Charlton for sure. I have browsed many more or less known auction sites and unlisted test tokens I have not seen. If there is anyone who can show me that they have an unlisted test token in inventory or in their collection I would like to see it. I remain convinced that I have a genuine test token not listed unless I have conclusive evidence. That's why I'm calling on his people who can give me a serious demonstration. Thank you for your comments but I need to have more advanced work because I have already done a lot of research before calling on experienced people.

Well that makes sense!

I would be pretty surprised to see someone counterfeit an uncatalogued test token. For me it is much more likely that a test token was created for a European customer that was uncatalogued. My uncatalogued test token also came out of Europe in a lot of three tokens that included a scarce catalogued token and another test token that is more common but not common.

PS the specs are similar but I don't think it is the exact same coin. So the dealer must hav had more than one.

This seller had two and I have both. The other one I have in hand is the photos posted on coincommunity by this seller in 2021 according to the link you sent me. Are test tokens for foreign countries listed? I'm going to ask a friend to tell me his metal composition to get to the bottom of it and I'll let you know.
Thanks again to you smallcentguy
