Still on the hunt for an 1878 Morgan VAM-9. Take a look below and let me know if this could possibly be it? Thanks! "Nummi rari mira sunt, si sumptus ferre potes." - Christophorus filius Scotiae

No, not the 9. It looks like the A1f reverse to me, VAMs-12, 16 and 17. edit to add - full obverse and reverse images could narrow the results to a single VAM number..

10-4. That's disappointing. I don't know why I'm having so much trouble identifying the VAM-9. Perhaps because there just aren't that many to see on these auction sites.
I'll go back in and pull the full obv/rev photos in a few minutes - could still be an interesting pickup, but probably not for the money this one will draw.
Thanks, again, @Dave.

I'm thinking it's a VAM-17 based on what appears to be the die chip in the lower loop of the first 8.

Sure looks like it to me now that you've pointed the pickup out. You da man!
For what it's already drawing, I'll be passing on this one and go back to more in-depth study on the 9. That's one I've really been hunting.

VAM-9 is going to be a tough cherry pick from on line auctions. There's always a brood of VAMpires watching 8tf listings for the more desirable die pairings with 9 near or at the top of the list.

Quote: There's always a brood of VAMpires watching 8tf listings I've recently become a VAMpire, but I'm on the hunt along with them! My cherrypicking has been pretty much low buck stuff, but I'm ready to shell out (within reason) for the right 9! Edit: and, I want to find it ungraded and unattributed - part of the fun and maybe a pipe dream.

Quote: and, I want to find it ungraded and unattributed - part of the fun Totally agree with you. I have very few VAMs that are attributed on the label.

I agree with finding one in the wild. I looked for years and stumbled on an ANACS-45 details (cleaned) attributed 9A in an auction and won it for $115. It is the only graded cleaned coin I have ever purchased.

I've "picked" several VAM 9's that turned out NOT be be... Keep looking!
