Hello everyone,

I am going to take a look at the 1812 coin tomorrow. I will weight, measure, and ping (these European crown coins usually come up on the Morgan dollar setting on the ping coin app)

I bought the 1809. It is slightly underweight at 24.4. diameter is about 26 (numista puts it at 28, but I have seen it at around 26 on a reputable Roman coin shop site).

Any thoughts on these two would be appreciated!

R.

I agree that the 5 lira is possibly counterfeit, usually the underweight is the telltale sign and in this case it is. It was explained to me by an Italian coin dealer that the law in Italy allows for good copies as long as they are not the same weight. Go figure
