Hi all,
Am trying to get some coins from the US to Australia via First Class USPS. I know they would fit into a Large Letter and possibly a regular letter and don't need them ASAP. Problem is, the USPS site goes on about how First Class is the most economical but when I try and get a price using the calculator it seems only Priority services are available. So, does First Class mail international no longer exist? If it does, what would be the cost of sending a large letter to Australia via First Class?
Thanks

The first ounce is $1.30US. Three ounces is $3.55US. The letter can't be thicker than a 1/4".

Thanks 1847Bill. It's a 1975 Jamaica mint set. ebay reckons postage $30US. Pretty sure it would be under 250g and fit comfortably in a large letter.

Quite a bit of misinformation here. By law, no merchandise of any kind is allowed in USPS international letter-class mail. Concealing a coin or other merchandise in a letter is a crime. The least expensive postage class for any type of merchandise sent internationally is called "first class package international" which begins at about $18 to Australia. A first class package to Australia weighing 250g would be $39.90. Unfortunately, that is the cheapest possible (legal) option. When pricing at usps.com, be sure to use 'calculate a price' rather than 'click and ship'. During covid, some USPS services to Australia have been suspended off and on. You can keep track of current service suspensions here: https://about.usps.com/newsroom/ser.../welcome.htm

As someone once told me, shipping FROM pretty much any other country in the world TO the USA is cheaper than the other way around, due to international postal agreements.
I always wondered why it was such a bargain shipping things to the States from Korea, but was almost prohibitive the other way...

So true it's cheaper to post an item to the States from Canada. Then to post the same items only 2 provinces away within Canada. Plus our postal rates have been increasing every year since 2013, when I started to do ebay and ship to Canada and the States! Letter mail was the most economical and had to be under 20mm thick. Example no thicker than a cent on its side. Anything taller was classified as a parcel and shipping quickly got expensive. Especially for coins in fancy packaging, even if the packaging was just a cheaply made cardboard display. People could save a minimum of $20, if coin was shipped in its capsule with its COA. So I always gave it as an option!

Just for statistics. It costs $10.55 to send a package weighing up to 100 grams to the USA from Russia (this does not include the envelope and the material for packaging the goods).
