Found this one in some change back from a store, but what happened to poor George's face? You can see some scratches around his facial features, but other than that, looks fairly smooth and uniform! Did someone sand down just his head, while not affecting the any of the letters? That had to take time and dedication? Wish I had nothing better to do than to deface coins, but then again looks like the jokes on me, I am the one taking pics and posting questions! Anyone else have any thoughts?

Appears to be carefully sanded. If this were a Struck Through Grease issue, I would expect to see the devices looking wider, they don't appear like that. So I feel the coin was altered.

Guess I need to do a lil homework on the " Struck Through Grease" process, but yall are saying that it could be possible for it to leave the mint with a smooth face? Just clicking on @coop's link, those appear to be getting smoother around the edges, not the middle?
