. I do not think it is a doubled/tripled die. Looks like a worn die issue with maybe MD=machine doubling? Let's wait for a pro or two to chime in though.

On the affected areas, they are reduced by removing the contour off of the devices.
1. When you see this on both sides of the coin, a red flag always goes up.
2. True the affected areas are horizontal, but note how they are affected. They are reduced not enlarged.

Note on these images the devices that are affected are showing spread on those devices.
3. You are looking in the right areas, but in this case, the devices were reduced in size because of a high bounce after the strike removing the contour on those areas. On a DDR you would need to see the spread.
