@erafjel helped identify this coin in another thread. I am hoping for some thoughts on its authenticity, grade, etc. Or ... Just any thoughts or opinions on the coin in general.

Beautiful gros tounois!
Looks authentic to me.
I would guess French grade TTB+ (@erafjel or @t360 are better at me on these grades), and Sheldon grade XF45 or possibly even low AU since the US graders are generous on hammered coins:

The double strike on the cross side detracts a bit from the eye appeal, but would not affect the grade

Thanks @tdz... It's priced at €160... Approx $175. I am nearly confident it's real and I have a hard time finding a better one at a reasonable price... Curious to hear more thoughts

In hand, I think the coin has been cleaned because it's certainly not as tarnished as I'd expect... This shop also has the 4 Reale I've posted on another thread...

Nice coin, as can be seen from the better pictures.

It is definitely Philip IV, 1290-95. Looks genuine. One of many many varieties, this one has a tiny fleur-de-lys on the "foot" of the L in PhILIPPVS (not rare, but an interesting detail).

I agree with @tdziemia on the grade, TTB+. Maybe cleaned, yes, but so are many of the surviving coins from this period, so (in my eyes) not a big deal. A price of 160 € is reasonable.

Thanks @erafjel - I am also considering the 4 Reale cob coin I have posted in another thread; but this coin is appealing more to me. It weighs and measures correctly and I cannot imagine the forgers can get so many points of detail right without an obvious give away.

It's a cool coin; seemingly well priced and interesting enough for me to sleep on and possibly buy . . . Thanks for your response.
