Whitehead & Hoag specialized in pin buttons, so this item would seem to lie a bit outside of their normal product line.

Fascinating history lesson for me @lc. This is my fave quote from that link:

While it's definitely true that W&H were the leaders in producing pinback buttons (they owned a patent on them), they were also a prolific producer of commemorative/souvenir medals.

I don't specialize in W&H medals, but probably have a couple of dozen of them that fall into one or more of my categories of interest. I've read articles that indicate that well over 100 medals were produced by the company.

I posted a few months back about a 75th anniversary medal for the same subject, if you're interested:

Great medal!
Did you know that the world's oldest working light bulb dates from 1901 and is in the Fire Station at Livermore, California!

I can't equal that, but when I moved into my first house in March 1986, the previous occupants had left a dim, 40-watt bulb in the front porch. I promised myself I would replace it with a brighter bulb when it burned out - which it eventually did in September 2006, two days before I moved to my present house...

I remember reading about that light bulb. Before I did, I had no idea that any light bulb had lasted so long! Quite amazing!
