I have an opportunity to buy around 80 W mint marked quarters. They are a mix of 2019 and 2020 that I am told were pulled directly from brand new rolls of quarters during those respective years. Asking price is $10 each. Thoughts on value both today and future?

To me maybe a little high for bulk unless you've seen them and they look really nice. A member on another forum was offering to buy at $5. Hard to know where these will go, I think nice raw coins (and of course high graded coins) will remain desirable.

I personally would pass at $10 per coin unless they were mid to high choice. I think the market will only value good looking coins. I found out about these just recently due to a hiatus in my collecting for a long period. I needed to pick back up on my desire to have a complete (modern) business strike collection and started to buy some of the W coins. After I got a few on ebay and from my LCS I was very disappointed with the prices and quality I was receiving. I decided to stop buying and let the prices stabilize. There are just too many poor condition coins getting thrown around with value attached to them. Higher graded examples are getting significant premiums. Just a feeling but I think things will settle down and only good quality ones will remain marketable.

Would be an acceptable price if all were at least MS62 or better. Would you be obligated to pick up all ~80, or do you have the option of selecting only the best?

Of course, a check of ebay sold/completed sales info for W quarters would be useful.

Just went through ebay sold listings. Couple things have changes in the last few months it seems. Ms64/65 coins are climbing in price and there seem to be less available. Lower graded coins are selling easily at $10+ per coin.

I don't have to buy all 80. I think I will try and just select the best looking ones for now. I will check ebay and use that as a guide for which quarters in the series seem to be commanding the better prices and also for quality/condition.

Thanks!

I thought that these quarters were released into the wild via bags of coins delivered to banks across the nation, not in Rolls

@Dearborn The quarters were to be mixed into Ballistic Bags of quarters sent to distributors (for example Brinks) who then roll them and send them to banks, so they were released into the wild but in rolls at the local bank level.

I found tons coin roll hunting and sold them as low as $8 all the way up to $25 per coin, that was when they were hot and the thing to sell/buy. I didnt have a single person even ask the grade, they just wanted them. I thought it was crazy but I was happy to sell them. I agree with everyone if I could buy some at 5 a coin I would cherry pick the best of them.
