As the title states, I'm from PA but I relocated to NC because I joined the Marine Corps in 1985, spent my whole career at Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point when I wasn't deployed

I got out in 2000 and have been fixing Marine AC since then and I currently work on the F35 program

I have been collecting coins and metal all my life

Here are just a few examples

I have 42 complete sets of circulated coins from 38 countries

I am working on a complete set of 99.9% silver proof Statehood and ATB Quarters and I'm about 85% there

I'm thinking about starting a $1 coin collection

Unfortunately, all of my full Whitman's Binders of circulated coins from my childhood seems to have disappeared during the first years that I was in the Corps

I left them at my mom's house and when I went back to get them, they were missing :(

Here are some odd things I collect that are metal and some of you may find interesting

50MM Meteorite Spheres

Hello-From-A-Jarhead-Born-In-Pa,-Transplanted-To-NC

I literally have the largest collection of meteorite spheres in the world

I also have a smelting furnace and use it to make 1 kilo copper ingots and coins from scrap

Hello-From-A-Jarhead-Born-In-Pa,-Transplanted-To-NC

I also collect pre-1982 copper pennies because, why not

I have an extensive collection of Challange Coins from the units I was in or worked with during my time at FRC East

I get a set of ECs (smashed pennies). It started with my son at Disney World and now and time the wife and I travel or just about any time I see a new machine I get a set for the binder

That pretty much sums up my past

I haven't really paid attention to US coins for a while so won't be able to help anyone with complicated questions, but I hope to expand my knowledge base by interacting with all of you in the future

Thanks

I'm originally from Wilmington, so your neck of the woods. I've been in the Raleigh area for thirty years or so now - I sure don't miss those muggy summers and hurricanes down east!

Glad to have you here and look forward to more posts. Thank you for your service!!!

Thanks for warm welcome

I used to hate these "introduction" threads because it makes me feel awkward for not saying hi to everyone, which would be impossible, but it still seems rude.

Then I realized they are good for chronicling your journey though the hobby

I received my first order of CAPS products the other day and I started to migrate my Silver Proof Quarters from my old Dansco folders into a Binder

Hello-From-A-Jarhead-Born-In-Pa,-Transplanted-To-NC

I have been waiting pretty much all my life for a system like this but it's still not perfect

I have noticed that the air-tite capsule fit is not consistent in the page pockets, some are super tight while others are loose enough to let the coin rotate

One thing that none of the online videos explained was how the backer board worked with the plastic page

It's sort of like foam and it's pressed over the pockets from the back side and just stays in place for the most part

This makes then easy to change, so once I get a particular program collection sorted out, I will order custom labeled backer boards

Here is the first 2 pages of my quarter collection migrated to the CAPS pages

The top row consists of an 1891 Seated Liberty, 1916 Barber, 1930 Walking Liberty, 1964 Kennedy and a silver 1976 Bi-centennial

The remaining rows are the Statehood Silver Proofs
