My question is not necessarily about the coin posted here but this is the coin that got me wondering this. Are there known pennies where VDB initials are not there. As with this coin. It has very little circulation damage. I looked through a lot of older and way more beat up pennies that you could still make out a little something where the VDB would be. Not on this penny. No sign of any VDB. Grease Fill? Thanks for putting up with me and thank you for all help.

If it should have a VDB and it is not there it most likely is because of grease or over polishing at the mint.

The master hub has the VDB so the striking dies should also have it.
The only way for it not to have it is a John1 stated.

None of the above. Keep in mind the incuse nature of the VDB. In order for the VDB of appear on the coin, the VDB is raised on the die. So the die could not be filled to cause this. The short answer is, it was polished off of the die. Just like the incuse devices the rear of the Washington quarters, the slightest Machine Doubling before/during/after can cause these to appear doubled:

Proving that they are raised on the die. During die polishing, the raised devices are affected by die polishing more. Thus they go away a bit more each time the die is polished, then finally go away totally. No way to restore a raised area on the die. It is just gone. Another die event. No premium.
