Could be struck though, but the odd stuff going on in front of Abe's face makes me think of fire damage. I'm interested to see what others think.

The little "Cape Cod" peninsula in front of Abes face makes me think a drop or three of acid pooled on the surface and caused this.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
