1972-S Lincoln Cent Charred Black Rim Portion

Opened a 1972 Mint Sealed Original Envelope about a half hour ago, noticed this immediately. Coin is still in the mint plastic. A portion of the rim has a dark black coatingvery slightly raised, and under the scope it has a charred texture it appears. Any ideas how something like this could happen at the mint?

My first thought was zinc rot, but this cannot be due to the date--this cent is just copper. Must be some sort of odd toning that is preferentially affecting that one part of the edge.

It's possible that it's oils from a finger that touched it before entering the cellophane.

Maybe something was on the cellophane before it was sealed.

It is also possible that that area was altered a bit. But it is damage. The edge would be normal as the collar would shape it that way.

Okay, thanks to all for answers, my impression was definitely damage before cellophane, but I did wonder if it could have been overheated in that spot before strike, as they say was the case with Black Beauty nickels etc. But then it would still be a case of why just that spot lol
