Hello

I saw this at everyones favorite auction house :)
and found it interesting. Is this the normal labeling
performed on this coin ? No grade ? No Die # ? Etc.

That is the new "GENUINE" label from PCGS for problem coins and they are not graded. That is 1955P-1DO-001, I can see the doubling even in that smallish picture

Biokemist6 is correct. I can't tell if it is the plastic or if the coin had a bad cleaning job. Did the auction say any problem? Still a Very very desirable coin!!

It probably has been cleaned. And since PCGS just started doing this "Genuine" service, the coin has been slabbed very recently. Maybe it got moved from an ANACS slab? PCGS will not give a grade I don't think on coins they mark "genuine". It would be nice for them to label the problem, like cleaned, scratched or whatever...

As soon as I saw the coin, I thought "cleaned". The color just doesn't look right. But, I would think that the owner would have been better off sending it to ANACS; after all, they will put a grade on it and then state the problem, right? Even though the PCGS holder has more prestige, I would trade that off to have it in a reputable company's holder with a grade on it.

Duhhh!

I forgot I had read this before
http://coins.about.com/od/coingradi..._genuine.htm

the 92 in the code before the slash does indicate cleaning problem.

sorry,
Jim
