Nearly Fine ( British grading)

In the British grading system, for a coin to be graded 'Fine', all of the design detail has to have full relief height and shape, with no flat spots on the high points of the design. This coin almost, but does not quite make it to to the 'Fine' grade level.

Britannia's shoulder is the most obvious area for this coin to not make 'Fine'.

I'll say F-15 on the Sheldon scale.

I can go as high as a VF-30 Sheldon, but not an EF though. So I suppose the British fine would be equivalent to our EF-40...

According to my grading guide it is well past fine. If anything I would grade this aVF - lots of detail there, the shield can have a flat centre at fine and the Britannia almost a silhouette, here the detail is around 67% complete and there is more to this coin than expected. Victoria has a considerable amount of frock and hair detail.

This is a pretty good piece and honest (Not cleaned).

Wow, thanks for all that info. I do think the coin looks better in the photo than in my hand though.

VF-20. Decent looking coin for the grade.
