The front of this 1972 D Lincoln Cent has weird bubbling on the front and the E and R are missing from LIBERTY. The reverse doesn't seem to have any damage that would match the damage on the front. I'm not sure what could cause this. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Depending on the weight, it might have been something like a mild acid if the weight is a tad under 3.11. Not a plus for the coin, just a copper coin or a spender.

I weighed it and it's 3.10 so could be damage from acid?

Looks more like mechanical damage to me, but I don't think it was struck like this.
