Could be a lamination error or planchet defect? It is mechanically straight. Any ideas? Also looks to have a minor RPM.

Don't see an RPM, but that line could be a scratch on the die - can you confirm if it is raised or incused?

Thanks Dearborn, the feature is incuse and there is a very faint parallel line running along side it visible in the closeup north. Maybe a wheel mark of some sort?

Hum
When I magnified the MM it appears like D/D
With the primary D East. (Last picture)
There are serifs top and bottom of the shafts.
Thought for sure a RPM.
Line looks like PMD. It nicks the rim.
Waiting for more knowledgeable input.

If it incuse, then it will most likely be a scratch on the coin itself.

Thanks Dearborn
When you say "on the coin itself " does that mean PMD?
Sorry. Need super simple explanation.

Note the die crack here is not straight and that the face of the die shows all raised devices. (these can be worn off of the coin in time) Also not the rims are affected. The straight line and the incuse mark at 6:30 on this coin puts in the PSD issue for me.

There are RPMs with the mintmark angled like your coin:
1958D-1MM-005
http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mds
1958D-1MM-037

http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mds
But the locations are not a match. Being angled, doesn't make it a RPM. It is a double punch issue that show spread/miss alignment that marks it a RPM. (But better images might show more. Include the full date and mintmark areas too see this better)
