I've been bitten by the Lincoln bug. Can't get em out of my head and have already ordered a BU 59-08 set that I plan on upgrading to the best possible varieties (please pray for me).

I'd like recommendations as to how to create the most dramatic possible display of these coins. I been to Wizard Coin Supply, but can't seem to make a decision and am wondering if there are options beyond what I see there.

Also, (other than theft or spilling my beer) is there any reason that the collection can't be displayed openly? i.e. sunlight, moon rays, gamma rays)

Lastly, (and on a completely silly note) I usually wear my tin foil hat at home so the aliens can't read my thoughts, will this be enough so the coins can't talk to me or am I doomed to search forever for WAM's CAM's, Zinc's and Copper's?

Displaying a set of coins shows any visitor that you collect coins. Doesn't matter how much the displayed set cost, they will assume you have the cheapest one on display and there's a whole cache under the floorboards or in the back room.

That introduces certain risks into your household. Choice is yours.

There is no reason you cant display them, but theft is honestly a huge reason not too. Its up to you. Most people stick with albums and if people show interest in your coins, its easy enough to pull them out and show them. Mine are all in binders and I try not to label them or anything. Also I'm trying to eliminate any coin stuff laying around letting anyone know I collect.

If the coins start talking, you might have other issues :) And yes, you are now doomed with lincoln collecting :)

Thanks Kabiye_Lady and Ceaton. I'm clear on the risks. For me, it's just not that much fun to have a collection that I can't see at a glance and show to others easily. I also have a vintage guitar collection that I display. I have an insurance policy, alarm system and an Irish Wife. You want to mess with the Irish wife, good luck!

If you have the tin foil hat then you are already on step 9 of the collection club...sorry.

When it comes to a display, the options are endless and could be fun to do. I have seen a fair amount of different collections displayed that all have their own unique style, touch and appeal. I remember about 15 years ago when Canada did a series like our Statehood Quarters and remember seeing a display cut of wood, plaques and information attached and the coin for each providence set within their respected areas. I talked to the person about it and they told me they tried to collect anything that would show off his love for his country. He then showed me two other collections but for town pins and coins that he had filling an entire wall in another room. The family would plan their vacations to new towns every year and add to the set. After that I visited a few more times and always had to look at them. They are a great conversational piece if done right and are fun to show off.

I do not know you personal craftsmanship, but you may want to make something yourself or keep looking around. Earlier this year I saw some hard plastic cases that were in black with gold lettering for each date that could be used as a picture idea and easily displayed, just a thought.

I wouldn't have a problem displaying a cheap Memorial set openly....but I have very profound security measures in my house (alarm, big dog, lighting, window bars, etc.), I'm also a well-trained gun owner/CC permit holder and...... I keep all the valuable stuff at the bank anyway. That said, I wouldn't do it if you keep valuable coins at home. It's an advertisement that you have coins.
