1932 Quarter Question - Coin Community Forum

spydercoin Valued Member United States 62 Posts	Posted 05/15/2022 3:21 pm I have a 1932 Quarter that has an area where the mint should be. There is a faint shadow of an 'S' and hopefully I have captured it in the photos. Is the 'S' original and there has been an attempt to remove it? or is it an attempt to put an 'S' in that position. Dearborn Moderator United States 96071 Posts	Posted 05/15/2022 3:25 pm I think that this is a Philadelphia minted coin ( no mint mark) and that the coin took a hit where a MM would be if one belonged there. I also would see absolutely no reason to remove an 'S' MM from a '32 quarter - that would just ruin an otherwise valuable coin. Collecting since 1972. Learning from then on "Tell me and I forget. Wrekkdd Pillar of the Community Canada 3328 Posts	Posted 05/15/2022 3:31 pm from far away it kind of looked like there was a mint mark but the close up is good and just shows a hit. Looks like the coin may have had some very heavy tarnish and was harshly cleaned. Report this Post to the Staff

But it is not a missing mintmark as it would be raised some, if it were on the die, or was a grease filled error. Not it is a mint error. Just a normal 1932 quarter. Report this Post to the Staff
