Some_Nerd New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 05/26/2022 10:36 pm Hello all, I already posted on Numista, but I was hoping to get some opinions here regarding the below coin. I believe it to be a Chinese Y#345 1 Yuan (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces16370.html ). This is from an ebay listing from a reputable seller that does not specialize in coins. As such, I do not have a weight or diameter to help validate. Based on looks alone, does this look genuine or counterfeit? If genuine, what grade would you give it? Albert Pillar of the Community United States 1913 Posts	Posted 05/26/2022 10:58 pm I have trouble with posts like this one (based on the provided images) because I have a stack of fakes that don't look much different than the posted coin or genuine coins. Specific gravity, weight and dimensions say more than some photos alone. As far as reputable sellers go, I have purchased both good and bad coins. Report this Post to the Staff
Sap Moderator Australia 16817 Posts	Posted 05/26/2022 11:21 pm All we can say is that, if it's fake, it's not a fake that is so bad that we can tell it's fake just by looking at the pictures. It might be genuine. It might be a higher-quality fake. Or it might be a poor fake with poor and/or deceptive photography. Frankly, with the number of high-quality fakes of Chinese dollars around these days, I'd stay away from ebay, and stay away from any seller of these coins who isn't a specialist in these coins and gives an ironclad return guarantee. David Graham Pillar of the Community Australia 1610 Posts	Posted 06/02/2022 4:14 pm Well if you buy it on ebay with Paypal you'll get a refund if fake. I once purchased a bunch of silver from a dealer who, like seller seems, sold mostly antique bric a brac and very few coins. The 1966 Mexico 25 Pesos turned out to be fake but the rest were genuine. When contacted he told me he was selling for a friend and the flips had silver written on them so he assumed they were silver.
