Hi all, this might be a tough one, but shining a light on the coin from the side, I can make out what u believe to be the following letters;

'COVENTAV'
'H ? ? ? E
'P L ? ? ?'
'16?9'

I have two pics showing the original and what I believe to be the letters and numbers. Any idea what this could be?

After a little research I have found this now to be a coventry half penny 1669

you may want to give it a good soak in pure acetone (not fingernail polish) to see if some of that gunk will come off. Then we may get a better look at it. That yellowish stuff looks like an organic, like lichens...
