Hey Everyone,

I would love to find out what you think this 1834 capped bust half dollar Dime I picked up would grade at.

There are a lot of good details on this coin... Hopefully the photos will do it justice.

What do you all think?

For this coin to grade VF it has to have a complete rim which I can not see. I think it would grade between F-15 to VF-20.

I can clearly see the ear & the drapery clasp, according to Photograde that makes it at least a VF20. If my eyes aren't fooling me I can see most of the curl on the neck, Photograde says a visible curl is an EF40.

I don't have a lot of experience with this series, but based on Photograde & this picture I'd give it a VF30.

I think a lot of the finer details get lost in the pictures.

Unfortunately, the size of this coin makes it hard to get really good close ups.

A buddy of mine is a photog with the AP and has a really nice macro lens in his kit for his side work.

I'm going to have him over this week and see if we can't get some nicer photos.

Thanks for all the opinions so far! Great to hear

I thought it at was at least VF-35, possibly better if the photo isn't great. F-15 is really harsh.

Per grading standards for a VF coin. "Both rims most be full, ear must be distinct and clasp on left shoulder will show plainly. Liberty on head band must show clearly."

On this coin from the pictures both rims are not full, however the ear is fairly well defined and the claps is visible. So with that in mind F-15 to VF-20 is not a harsh grade for this coin.

I would say it is in the VF range myself. I don't see the rims not being full...maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.

How are both rims not full? And this coin generally has the hair detail/eagle detail associated with high VF coins, minimum.
