1878-S Morgan VAM 111? - Coin Community Forum

RuffledRacoon New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 06/01/2022 5:15 pm Hi all, I have a similar question about an 1878-S, which most resembles (at least to my untrained eyes) the VAM 111. This one appears to belong to #14 on the Hot 50 list - DDO "RIB." Unlike VAM 6, the "r" is not broken in "trust." VAM 22 has mint mark set left, but this one is set more in the middle. VAM 77 has mint mark set very high, but this one is more centered. VAM 111 seems like the only one that fits. Any thoughts would be welcomed, and thank you for taking a look! The 111 has a die gouge below the I in Pluribus that points up to the I, and the 16 has the wing die gouge with the doubling. You saved me from having the coin graded, at which time I would have been even more disappointed. What's more, now I have an 1878-S VAM 16, which is new to my collection.
