What Are These Marks I Am Finding On Some Coins?

I have done extensive research and cannot find a definitive answer for this possible error I am finding on quite a few coins lately. The error? is on the Obverse at the bottom of Washington's bust and it is around the initials of the artist. Opinions/answers are very appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/04/2022 2:09 pm That is a die crack, starting to form die chips on that area of the bust. Something that I've recently thought of these are probably a die event that happens after a die clash, thus the crack is often see on this area of the quarter obverse design. Sometimes it spreads. (Possibly from another die clash event happens) And sometimes a Cud happen on that area: But the clash would probably have to be a very strong clash to cause the Cud to form. errorluvr New Member United States 31 Posts	Posted 06/04/2022 2:15 pm Thank you. It didn't make sense that it was only a die chip as it looks different. Your answer seems to be right on target. I am seeing so many of these on the quarters from 2000 it almost seems to be a very common problem. Similar to Drooling George.
