Sammeli,

Your question is a little ambiguous.

If you buy an item from a seller on ebay the seller gets the full sale price (less ebay fees). ebay adds the HST to this and the buyer pays the sale price plus HST.

The only thing new here is that in the old days it was up to the seller to add HST and remit it to the government. Now ebay collects and remits for all. This is simple if you are an HST exempt seller. If you are a taxable seller like Pacificoin, it leads to the complications he has described.

I see that ebay charges GST+PST on bullion items. Is it because a seller did not create a tax exempt listing or because ebay does not provide such an option?
If it is the latter, there is a potential violation of tax laws. Pure precious metals are GST/HST exempt, PST rules are complicated, but there should not be PST on bullion.
Looks like the buyer is paying an extra tax without a way to claim it back.

ebay does not give you option to create a tax exempt listing. Taxes are calculated automatically.

Sold an item on ebay. They charge seller taxes and they also charged me gst. I'm I correct that I shouldn't be paying at my end?

Do you live in BC? The BC government charges PST on sellers. Apparently only BC does this.

ebay is messed up on this new fangled TAX Collection policy .
Since the change on July 1st , we have had several different
Canada orders . Some of these on ebay..Ca collected the proper
GST/HST and provincial sales tax .
The ones listed on ebay.com have not collected TAX at all . Since we are a GST
registrant and to avoid potential troubles down the road with the CRA we have
taken the unbelievable step of only shipping Canadian Sales on ebay.com via the Global
Shipping Program . Rhetorically speaking how messed up is that ?
We are located in the Fraser Valley BC and to get an item to anywhere in
Canada , it will now go via GSP in Erlanger KY !!
Never in my life did I think to stay onside with the government , I have to export items
From my own country !
You just cannot make this stuff up ! Thanks !

I feel for people selling on e-bay even as a buyer its getting crazy taxes, Global shipping ups the price of said coin making them un appealing to buy. e-bay is like a flee market now a lot of low end coins, but still not bad for varieties in what I collect.
Good luck to all who deal with e-bay

Sellers, like myself, who are below the $30,000 threshold to register and have a GST/HST number, are impacted the least, if using ebay.ca.

The taxes are extracted from the buyer and remitted directly by ebay.ca, and unlike Pacificoin, my shipping costs can remain lower than those who have to resort to Global Shipping fees. It's a bit of an unfair advantage when you think about it, but I am a collector who only has ever claimed sales from coins as "other income" on my annual taxes (i.e., it is not a business for me, and it is not my primary source of income).

This is year one - wrinkles might get ironed out over time as this evolves.
