OOO I have such a coin, but its grade is VG 10 (without slab). It's definitely better.

What would ICCS grade it, I wonder?

Probably 63 ICCS on a good day . They are super tough on 1922 to 1936 George V Five Cent Nickel.

I seem to be amongst the un educated in this case. To me, it appears to have a very rough surface for a 'Finest Graded"

NGC and PCGS are both know for over grading Canadian coins. The pictures posted are not nearly good enough for a grade assesment so I'm not sure why anyone would drop a grade opinion. I'm not seeing any contact marks... Actually I see nothing with the current photos that would allow me to judge any sort of ms grade. If this is a true ms66 it's a true gem and congrats.

Check out the verification pix at NGC Too many marks especially on the numeral 5 , the coin is slightly " rimmy ", numerous Little ticks . Obverse a touch weak for strike as most are Not a lot of wham in the lustre of the coin either. Text book ICCS 63 based on 35 years of submissions . Best is to send it in and see if it crosses ( it won't) .

Pacificoin: It's a "Numbers Game"... ICCS doesn't carry a lot of weight in The States (the "Big Boy" auction firms do not consider sending any Canadian coins to ICCS for grading and sale). Of all the BU GV Nickels graded by NGC, this is the only 66. PCGS has graded 30-something MS66 out of over 100x as many submitted. If you're collecting a Registry set, you need this coin. These are just scans-it's a lot more "whizbang" in hand, but I don't have to defend it-the number speaks for itself.
I will add that years ago we bought an 1875-H 25c graded PCGS MS62 or 3. It wasn't pretty-too much original toning in my opinion-but it was definitely a decent Unc. None (four) of the Canadian dealers/collectors we asked didn't even want to see it, if it wasn't in an ICCS holder. I thought that was very strange...

Quote: Of all the BU GV Nickels graded by NGC, this is the only 66. PCGS has graded 30-something MS66 out of over 100x as many submitted. Perhaps this is because Canadian collectors value NGC much less for registry level coins and therefore don't send nearly as much stuff to them..the nickel collectors I deal with would treat an NGC graded piece like this as if it were basically raw if I tried selling it to them.

"Perhaps this is because Canadian collectors value NGC much less for registry level coins and therefore don't send nearly as much stuff to them..." Possibly. I offer my top-end Canadian coins to US "numbers" investors-no argument, just a Thank You.

10 times out of 10, I would choose a PCGS MS-66 graded George V 5c over, an NGC MS-66.

I have to agree with the group and also don't think it would grade as high with other top grading companies. I have never really had good luck with NGC graded Canadian coins I prefer other companies
