Evening all,

Hope you're all well and enjoying the sun. Now I've got some god awful paperwork out of the way, I can start going through what I've got as far as duplicates are concerned.

I have these two lovely 1901 pennies, but think I might sell one of them. Which would you say was the better? One has far nicer lustre, but the other looks a bit sharper...I think. I may just keep both, but would like your opinion please.

Definitely second one which looks AU to BU, the first coin has a sharp reverse but Victoria shows clear wear on his medlas, hair and face (High VF with gEF rev).

The second coin has plenty of original lustre, but the first looks as though it's been lightly cleaned or wiped at some time.

Thanks all,

I was siding with the second one myself as it does have some lovely lustre on it.

The first one I can see a partial finger print of on closer examination. How can you tell if a coin has been cleaned? Is it an obvious thing?

Second coin slightly sharper strike. Examine the drapery detail over the upper part of Britannia's right leg. Slightly more attractive toning would not affect my decision to prefer one over the other, but I expect other opinions may differ.

But to be honest, there is not much to choose between them. Keep them both, if you have no need to sell either, or only one of them.

Nothing wrong with keeping duplicates if both are nice.

Both of these are most attractive for their grades.

Both are nice but I'd go with the second one as a better coin.
