hard to tell, need a close-up of the 'R'
But the coin as a whole, is very worn and well circulated. I wouldn't rule out that it took a hit long ago and then smoothed off while circulating. This coin is a 40% silver coin though.

Pictures are too fuzzy but I do agree, it is likely just a hit in circulation.

Looks like it was a pocket piece for some time. So it is just damaged. But still a 40% silver coins. (1965-1970-D half dollars are 40% silver coins)

Very, very worn, so worn it's difficult to tell if the R was damaged or not. I'd say just worn if pressed to decide. Keep searching!
