You would think, huh, but in this case, it looks like that 90% of the damage is concentrated to the outside rim areas. I'm not going to say that this coin is/was a Dryer Coin, but it is possible it got caught in some type of machinery to get damaged in this fashion. Or somebody was just having a very bad day and took it out on this poor unsuspecting nickel... Point is, how it got damaged is something we may never know or find out - but the fact that it is damaged is well observed on this coin.
