In a nod to grading forum member Greasy Fingers, announcing that the NS who buys stuff based on bad pictures on the internet never went anywhere. Still alive and kicking.

Looks like a little striking weakness at about K7-K8 in the obverse and corresponding place in the reverse K10-K11. Tough from seller's pictures, but what are your grading and other relevant thoughts about this coin? Thanks!

Nice variety! I didn't need the bifocals for that one.

I'm at VF-35 technical, but possible details for ED, depending on how the reverse looks in hand. The strike weakness requires whole-coin grading. The rims and denticles are way too strong for F-anything. The better struck areas of the obverse suggest VF-30/35 at a minumum, and the better struck areas of the reverse almost push EF-40. That's why I net it to VF-35 technical.

A lot of the reverse looks like surface gunk, but when I played with the color, there is verdigris. I'm guessing it's going to do the acetone backstroke when it comes in?

Thanks as always fortcollins. If you can post the images you saw that show the verdigris it would be greatly appreciated. I also manipulated the contrast, brightness, etc on the images to see if anything popped out and didn't catch the verdigris. Would be helpful to see where it sits.

As I adjusted further, I wonder if these are the areas you saw. When it comes in I'll have to make the return--remediate decision and hopefully if there is an issue with verdigris, I'll have my verdi-care ready in case it looks promising for remediation.

@numismatic student, Yeppers. That's what I was seeing. There's another spot on the arrow shafts.

From the pic, it doesn't look fatal, though, especially on a silver coin.

EDIT: Also, trying to assess the condition from a pic is always a gamble. It may just be surface gunk.

EDIT EDIT (last one, I promise): It's possible that the obverse was already conserved. That may give a feel for how the reverse would do.

My hope is that it isn't the dreaded PVC damage. We'll find out shortly. Thanks!

For sure on PVC. If it is PVC, the obverse would also show the result of that damage, and I don't see it on the pics. Here's hoping!

VF Details, obv cleaned, rev ED and possible damage across the shield.
Cool variety, but not a fan of the eye appeal.

she might clean up with veridcare and the verdigris does need remediated. the obverse is definitely weak strike with the standout LIBERTY and right field stars as well as the date fortcollins called it that the coin needs to be graded by the overall coin. the reverse looks high XF even AU details wise but the coin is still going to pull a details designation no matter what. I can see why FC netted it to VF35.

VF detail, may be salvageable with conservation. I wouldn't try to do it yourself but rather send it to the experts to see what they can do. A soak in pure acetone can't hurt, though.
