You could take a picture of a part of a coin and post it. Whoever correctly identifies the type of coin wins.

ok I am 15 post away from 250 which I said every 125 post I would do a contest and I am still thinking of a good easy contest to do since I want to get new people and onlooker into it as well as the faithful people so if you have a good idea for a contest please post it here. It might also help others who are thinking of doing a contest with ideas. I do have a few ideas that I could do but wanted others. I like the identifing of coins but it is being done and might be hard for a new collecter.

I agree that is pretty tough on a newbie or even experienced collectors to identify a bunch of coins by a close up pic of certain parts. Its a good way to earn the prize tho lol.
But anyways I thought id try pitchin ya an idea or 2 they might not be the best but its just an idea.
1) you could maybe take a tin and put several coins in it and have someone guess by the pictures how many coins are in it. 2) you could take a coin and just describe it and have people guess what country its from and whoever gets it right wins.
just a try. if you like them then great but if not its ok I'm just tryin to throw a couple ideas on the board for ya.

as far as easy goes I have to say your last contest was one of the easiest contests I have seen on here. It was just a guess the price of silver at the end of the day contest if I remember correctly, and I dont know of one that couyld be easier than that because all ya had to do was look at the prices and guess what you think the market would do by the end of the day. I'm not saying to do the same thing but I just wanted to state that that was the easiest one I have seen on this forum thus far. The name the coin with country contest's arebnt for us U.S. coinage only people and we get left out of those contests

It may be because all the contests lately are run by darksiders Bryan. I for instance know next to nothing about US coinage (still trying to learn) and absolutely nothing about the VAM thing. I can not try to get a part in grading contests either because to met there are mainly two grades; nice, and not Guessing the price of silver was a cool contest too, but it was 20% knowledge and 80% luck. (not saying a bad thing) Speaking for myself, next time, I may try getting some help from a US coin expert for an idea to get you "U.S. coinage only people" into the fun. However, I can not offer any US coins as prize (unless I giveaway coins that are already gifts to me - over my dead body )

hmm its hard to think of contests which is for everyone..
perhaps you could post some coins which are comemoratng something and then people could guess what the coins are celebrating...

I understand what you are saying, like I said the name the country game isn't for everyone just like a name the US coinage wouldnt be for everyone. Guessing what the market would be at the end of the day was mostly a guessing game I agree because no one can actually predict the future, but thats what made the contest easy and fun in my opinion because everyone had a chance of getting it right. Even though I wouldnt allow edits next time

Yes I have only been collecting around 7 months (but have learned alot) so my collection is very limited with me being on a fixed income but would love to see it grow, I never thought about world coins until I started coming to this forum but am interested in becoming a knight and well ya gotta do what ya gotta do to become what you want. I have someone that said he would help me with the quest for australian coinage so I can get that part out of the way and then I will just have to wait for the invitation

Bryan....if you need any help in obtaining aussie coins just let me know.
Even if you just want information I would be happy to help. There is a lot to learn depending on what you are interested in (pre-decimal or decimal coins).
If you want to send me your address I will send you a small selection to get you started.
