Some notes on the new website... These are very opinionated and I don't expect agreement but debate is always a good thing... esp if I get something wrong.
1) Forcing a new password... Not a bad idea. This will weed out casual users and also diminish the number of compromised accounts.
2) It is also hard to argue against login-timeouts It is a bit goofy in today's world with as many on-line threats as there are to have a website that doesn't timeout.
3) New Look... I like the bold images but find the pictures too big on my phone; I find it harder to navigate. That said, I never used
mint.ca on the phone but did use the
RCM app and it is currently broken.. I think it relied on the website and with the changes in that, the app needs updates that haven't yet been pushed out.
4) The obvious contra position from bold images is that the screen is wasteful Less dense means more scrolling. Not a fan of all of the scrolling... maybe there is a happy medium that can be achieved.
5) The website used to tell you when you were looking at a coin you already ordered.. It no longer does... This is a loss because it is easy to forget that a specific coin has been ordered, especially when the mint ships months after initial order. I have used that feature when at risk of a "Double Order"
6) The website is new and as such has not been optimized for performance as yet,.. It is horribly slow when retrieving past orders or "My Collection" items
7) Looking at the bullion / products pages... It appears to have the same UI as the NCLT complete with an order button.. All items I looked at were "Unavailable" but it does pose the interesting prospect that the
RCM may direct sell bullion.
8) I am bemused by the sequence of items within each category. They don't seem sorted by date, value, Sold out status, mintage... It does appear random and that is not good. You can select a sort sequence but the default "Relevance" seems random.
9) I like the circulation history section...It provides description of the core circulation coins over time including their composition and mintages. Only thing missing is images. Always the glutton, it would be nice to see the same for NCLT.
10) I have always thought the past order history section weak. I think the
RCM could learn from others such as
Amazon... It is still too slow and not data dense enough... You have to scroll pages to find orders from previous years... It hasn't improved and actually with the new focus on whitespace, it is now less functional requiring many more page scrolls.
Just a few thoughts... I am interested in others' opinions.
