I have a v.n.-balboa gold in color coin that has chain hooks attached to the top of the coin. The are embossed with the common man with the armored hat. Does anyone know about this particular coin?
It's not "v.n." - it's "un", Spanish for "one"; they've just used a V-shaped letter U on these coins (as you can also see on the other side, in REPVBLICA). Your coin is a 1 balboa, probably silver-dollar-sized.
It sounds like it's been gilt, and had jewellery mounts attached to it. This pretty much ruins it's value as a collectable coin. However, it might still have intrinsic value, if they've used a silver balboa instead of a base-metal one. What's the date of yours?
I should also mention that I've seen fake balboas been turned into jewellery and souvenir items, too.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
