There are several places where I may be seeing the slight impression of letters or stars, but the one letter "G" seems more apparent. Your opinion is always welcome.

The edge lettering is applied after the coins are minted on a completely
different machine at high speed. Minor anomalies are quite common.
The ones to look for are the ones with no edge lettering

I dislike the edge lettering.

At least the proofs are struck in a lettered collar. This and the useless edge mint mark are why I only collect the proof strikes. Once it is in the Dansco, I cannot tell which mint it is from, so I settled on building date sets only. If I am going to buy one, I might as well buy the one with the best strike.
