I know this coin is .666 silver content, but the toning seems strangely copper; might the mint in Konigsberg have been shorting the silver content? It's pretty slick, but I like it as an example and got it at a fair price for a 250+ year old silver coin.

It also weighs a full 2 grams lower at 6.14.

Any thoughts?

I doubt it could be authentic at that weight.

Even with wear, I am seeing weight at 7.8 - 8 g on MA-shops for this type.

@tdz, it's an odd coin to fake in this condition isn't it? It's the slickest coin I have ever handled. Edges match authentic examples, it's not cast, not two planchettes, not magnetic, the wear is very very smooth, and pings like silver. It's a $15-25 coin. I'm still looking for fakes, but haven't found one like this. There are some alibaba types, but those are the typical alibaba types...

I'll keep looking. Thanks for your reply.

This is the example I have been using . . . https://www.ma-shops.com/knopik/ite...id=190429014

The observe legend is nearly identical in some of the characteristics - ie the asymetrical 'O'; slightly elevated 'SS' ; on the reverse the curl of the '3' and the 'fatter' 'E' mint mark are somewhat different. I'm curious. I am not into it much, but the coin is SLICK - Visually far more worn than the example linked on MA above.

I agree that there is very little in the design details that indicate it could be a fake. But if 25%of the weight had been worn away it would be completely smooth.
I noticed the nose is different.

@tdz... Yes...more bulbous on my example; worn into flatness? There is absolutely no relief left on my coin, it's completely slick with just the outline. I'm concerned about the 25% loss... A contemporary fake? The boys not minding the press that day at the mint? I cannot see, logically, why it would be faked. I can say, with near certainty, the patina and wear is all right. But... I'm still new to this.

I'm curious about this one and hearing from some more folks ...

Another contemporary counterfeit. Rather common occurrence with late 1700s-early 1800s Prussian pieces, right up through the thaler denomination.
