As an aside regarding the value of the coin. I am not sure what grade Y-18 is, and I assume from the comment excessive hairlines that the coin has been cleaned, however Krause lists this coin even in XF as $350.
Now I know Krause are off on a lot of their values but based on the actual grade and problems is this really a $9000 coin?
What grade is the one being sold in Poland? And more importantly will they get $9000 for it?

Whoops! just realised Y-18 is the KM# So what grade is this? Plus it does not seem that rare 3,100,000 There are other much rarer Polish coins between the wars, including the 1931 of this very coin and some of the 2 zloty

You must be making some mad money to be able to buy a $9,000 coin at 21! I agree with others that you should send it to another TPG and get their opinion.

Here is some more Info. I know there was lower mintage of other coins from in between the war years. If my brain serves me right there wasn't a 2 zloty in 1931. Did you mean 5zloty? I'm not 100% sure why these are the rarest because like mentioned about there was other coins that had mintages of like 250 000 instead of a few million. I'm sure only a handful went out into circulation. Ask any Polish coin collector and he will tell you that this coin is the rarest from the in between the war years. Heres the date from different angels: Polish coin catalog (C.A.) means the price is really high. Collectors decide. If your bored go on ebay look up what the 1930 and 1931 ones are selling compared to Cat. Price. The prices are out dated. Here are some pictures of offers I received when I was trying to sell the coin. Before I noticed it was fake: This one someone in Polish wrights.. $ is to much I was thinking more of this price range. You can see the dates of both the offers. PS. the image below is from my dads email. I emailed a person on ebay last night with the link to this forum. He was selling a lot of NGC Polish coins. He emailed me back saying he had a similar problem before with NGC. He didn't explain it. I did email him back asking for his story tho. I still have to post some of the emails that NCS sent me .. when I find a minute. Tomasz Machaj

What about the hairline scratches and grade? Could that have been why NCS only offered you a lower amount? What grade are you basing your $9000 on? there does not appear to be a grade on your slab.

The reason there is no grade on the slab is that NCS doesn't grade coins, they only conserve them. If would have had to be submitted to NGC to get a grade or bodybag.

I wasn't the one who said anything about $9000. Someone mentioned it. I just quoted a price of a similar coin that's currently for sale. I got my price from what I paid for it. It was $12000 cad. The Polish zloty was more expensive when I bought the coin. Right now it's about $1cad=2.8zl. It was more like $1cad=2.2. The coin for sale now for 31000zl had tonging on it, which makes it look nicer. The seller also says it has scratches. My coin has better details on it tho. In my opinion they are good too compare. If you look at the offer I got on ebay it was $9000... which I didn't accept because I was hoping to get more. This coin is really difficult to price because of it's rarity.

OK, now I have the whole picture. Wow CAD$12000, that's a lot of money. In light of this I definitely would have it's genuine status verified by another TPG. Assuming that you have Polish roots Tomasz, and that is why you bought it. And assuming you must have quite the Polish coin collection. And bearing in mind that this must have been a rare opportunity to own such a coin. Plus the fact that you paid a lot for it and didn't get it for a fantastically low price, can I ask why are you selling it?

I do have Polish roots. Was born in Poland. I had a dream since I was really little to own a Porsche 911, and I ended up putting a down payment on one early Dec. The person gave me until end of feb to pay for the car. So I decided to sell some of my better coins to pay for it. The thing that hurts me the most is now that I didn't sell the 5 zloty Nike. I had to take apart a big portion of my collection to pay for the car, a portion I never dreamed of selling. Now most my collection is ruined because of what happened. I am young tho so there is years of collecting ahead of me. I will just start from pretty much scratch and build a collection exactly how I want it. Here is the car I bought.. I kinda regret buying it because of all the stuff that happened with my collection, but sometimes you just have to learn from you mistakes. The background on the 2 on the date of the coin looks disturb, but of course I am not a profesional to say I'm right in what I see. I don't know if others can see what I see.

This thread doesn't add up to me. Below are some points that confuse me. Machaj, So you bought the coin for (12,000cad) ungraded knowing that the coin is often faked? Furthermore you didn't get a receipt or have a way to contact the seller? You decided to sell the coin because you needed the money so you listed it on allegro. A day later the coin was taken off the site as they claimed it was fake. On page three of this post, you show pictures of the coin being listed on ebay with and offer of 9,000usd which you declined. You stated this was before you knew the coin was fake? Was this before or after you listed it on allegro? I'm not sure how NGC will go about replacing your coin as it's damaged and may be difficult to find a replacement. I believe fair market value would be the only way to go.

I put it on allegro after I tried selling it on ebay. I was looking to get more then $9k us for it. The coin was taken of allegro at the end of December. I checked the coin when I was buying it. I seriously don't know how I didn't realize it was fake. I did look at it under high magnification. Then again NCS made the same mistake right? I'm guessing the lighting tho.. because if you look at the above picture in some of them you can't tell anything was changed. When do you get receipts buying coins at coin shows.. because I seriously don't remember getting any 99% of the time. Like I mentioned above.. I had the guys info until the coin came back from NCS. After it came back as genuine I had nothing to worry about. I really don't care if they replace the coin.. or pay me fair market value. As long as it's actually fair market value. Hopefully that clears some stuff up. Tomasz Machaj

Quote:In light of this I definitely would have it's genuine status verified by another TPG. The problem here is getting them to give anything other than a verbal opinion without removing the coin from the holder because if they take it out of the holder then all his claims against NCS go out the window. About the best he would be able to get would be verbal opinions at shows. Or he might be able to get them to agree to examine the coin in the holder and to not remove it unless it is genuine. (Get that agreement in writing lest they say "well we thought I was real but after we took it out we changed our mind." and what you are really looking for is the coin still in the NCS slab with bodybags from the other services.) Apparently the only way you are going to get them to give you fair market value is through negative publicity. Because in their guarantee THEY get to decide what the fair market value and that their decision is binding on all parties. So you are going to have to know what that fair market value opinion is befor you let them get their hands on it (Once again in writing.). Otherwise they could get it decide the alue say its binding and you are out of luck. The wording of their guarantee also confuses me. They say that if the coin is not genuine they will pay the difference between what you paid or what the fair market value of a genuine piece was at the time, whichever is lower, and what they decide the current fair market value is. That means that if you did pay $9,000 for the fake, and they decide that the current FMV of a genuine is $9,100. Then they will pay you $100 for the fake. What if they decide the FMV is $8,000? The difference then is -$1,000. Does this mean that YOU owe THEM $1,000? Frankly I really don't like the way their guarantee is worded. 3. EXCLUSIVE REMEDY: In the event that the owner of a coin that has been deemed Authentic by NCS believes that the coin is not authentic, such person may submit the coin to NCS for "Authentication Review". If the coin is determined under such review by NCS not to be authentic, then owner shall first attempt to reverse transaction if possible or NCS may also elect to pay such owner an amount equal to the difference between the lower of the submitter/owner's purchase price or fair market value for the coin if the coin were authentic, and the current market value of the coin based upon what NCS believes, in its sole opinion, to be reliable current market information. NCS' subjective determination of fair market value and current value shall be binding on all parties.

My simple advice is to be VERY familiar (weight, subtle characteristics, known counterfeit copies, etc.) with the series you're collecting or plan to collect. This self acquired knowledge will help eliminate any counterfeits which catch your eye.
Take Care and Good Luck Ben
