I didn't see cracks in hair. There is no chip on T. I see die scratch above Y of LIBERTY. Columns 11 and 12 give me problems. Are you guys seeing the same things I am looking at. Also how do you guys get straight lines and perfect circles when marking areas of a coin? Oh, by the way RPM 5 and RPM 9 in same roll , multiples of each (go figure)

Your coin is Stage 'B':

Quote:

Stage B: Die scratch North from upper Y of LIBERTY - EMDS
Reverse die changed - EDS

(Some Underlining and bold letters added - coop)

Understanding the information on die states helps. The reverse die was changed after stage 'A'. So while the obverse die is fresher, the rever die was changed out. Why? Not sure, but the information mentions the change. It may have cracked worse, or needed a polishing, and a new die was used as a replacement. Note on the later states the obverse die ages:

Note the lowest box on this page for this information. It is there to help us to determine die states/stages. They list the stages the the dies experiences. Knowing how to read this chart, helps you to under stand the changes in die stages/states. Always look for this directions on how to read the dies events. This will sometimes you surprise you and yet make total sense once you get used to reading this information.

You have a way of explaining things very well. Believe me it's a gift. Thanks I actually thought it was stage B (amazing). After so many years of teaching myself I realize I am no different from my students in that I focus on a specific answer not realizing much more valuable info is being shared. Even though you covered the information in question, you will receive questions about things you have already covered. KUDOS for your patience. I have to practice the same thing daily. I promise you I read everything you post and go to the websites you suggest. I often think that if people understand things on the first explanation of a concept imagine how much everyone could learn!
