2016 P Dime Cracked Die Or Do I Need A Tree Surgeon ?

hewart Valued Member United States 157 Posts	Posted 06/30/2022 2:21 pm Found this in a roll. Only the Oak Branch was affected. It appears to be a cracked die but I'm not totally sure. It covered a lot of area mostly the branches and a leaf at the top. What do you think ? Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/30/2022 3:26 pm Die chips on the reverse. How can I tell? Note they are taller than all the other devices. This type of chip happens when the chip breaks off the die, thus making it rise higher above the design on that area. So they are die chips. Report this Post to the Staff

With so much damage, I needed to send extras at close-ups to be sure you could see all. This was a strange one and there was certainly die damage but I have never seen it so localize on that area. I never look at coins with the aspect of making money. I just love the hunt and discovery of the different conditions of those coins. Thanks for the response. Report this Post to the Staff
coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 07/01/2022 3:09 pm Your training your eyes when you figure out what you are looking at. Unless something is extreme, you might only want to save an example to show to a new collector to help them in there searches. Get a larger coin tube and put your show and tell coin into it to show to a new collector. Sometimes seeing it on a coin may mean more to a new collector. I do believe in the show and tell process. That is why I try to display some of my finds as examples. And who knows ? I might have something no one has ever seen before.
