Hello my friends,

After 2 or more years I open another box of estate. Inside I find this coin which it is really not my specialty. I look for and what I find was re-struck coins also. I have no idea what I have. This are the specs:
26.75 gr
~ 40 mm diameter
Edges plain
Seem to be align II
Signature C. Gobrecht F
Orientation medal
Metal Silver. Small XRF 876 Si and the bug one 892 Si

The texture is funny for a proof of our days but it is a very nice coin. Marks on the letters could be see.

Please your opinion

Appears to be a modern Chinese fake. Note the words "copy" on the obverse. No value.

A modern Chinese fake made of 87-89% silver? Well at least it's worth the silver in it, I almost didn't see the "COPY" stamp but have never seen a coin of this age with those kind of fields so assumed something was up right away.

After go in database and reports from the mint, seem in 1986 at 150 years after original strike, the mint release 27500 collector sets. In the description from mint the coins was issue from the original die.

in the begin I do not see the mark "copy". I redone an xrf with magnetic detection and give me the alloy it is SI-NI with some CU.

Till past first of July I was involved in fake coins detection and I can say never saw a single coin from China with the mark "copy", this make me to go to consult the reports from the Mint. This it is the story. I learn every day.

Sorry again disturb, but believe me I am not on those coins, and been fair with you I have almost 1000 Morgan's which wait to be select but I have no knowledge for and needier literature. Maybe one cold Quebec winter day I will start with those 1000's WAM.

Thanks for your input..

Copy jumped out at me.

I don't what database or "mint" reports you are looking at but the US Mint hasn't made any Gobrecht dollars since the restrikes of the 1850's.

I agree, one look counterfeit.
I agree with Conder101, no restrikes of the Gobrecht dollar has been made in 1986.
