So I got this coin as part of the coins I got from my grandfather. I can pretty easily figure out it is some kind of Prussian coin, but I would like too know a bit more about it. I am not quite sure where too find any information about it. Also I thought it was weird that on the reverse it has 5 numbers at the bottom. What looks like to me 17489. Wanted to know what was up with that.

Thanks in advance

I think I figured it out. 1789 Reichsthaler. Seems that middle digit is actually the letter A . https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces95874.html

You have figured it out rightly . And the A is the mint mark for the Berlin mint.

Yes very good investigative work @drp. The A is going to be the Berlin mintmark I expect.

Added: well that was dumb of me not reading @era's explanation first.

Thanks for the extra info. I think the reason my grandfather had this coin is his grandfather was named Fredrich Wilhelm. So where ever he bought the other large silver coins, he probably just saw it one day and made the connection.
