I am new to collecting coins and bought a couple silver dollars (from private) in the last months. I did mainly go by gut feeling, but have studied various websites with grading advice. I am still quite unsure especially about the divisions between XF / AU and AU / MS.

So I would now like to compare my grades to what the community here thinks. I hope the pictures are good enough.

Here goes no. 4, a 1885 Morgan dollar, no mintmark.

Thank you all.

Side note:
Interesting. In the german system XF is suppopsed to be about the same as VZ (vorzüglich), acc. to an internet article I found.
But browsing mint cataogues from dealers here I think this coin would be for sure not rated VZ but SS (which should then approximate VF).

Here is the table I am talking about (scroll down):

From my (granted, very limited) experience it would be more
AU = VZ
XF = SS

Not a bad looking example with nice, honest wear. VF-35

the coin may be a tad better than VF35. I think the obv will help it make XF40
