Had some junk silver sitting around the house. Went to the local coin shop and was able to trade for nicer silver coin to add to my small but growing collection of Habsburg coins.

Looks nice! Some good detail on the double-headed eagle and Franz has a nice beard.

A common grade to find these in.
Nevertheless, a good acquisition, if traded at the right price.

Super coin!
Nice portrait, original patina.

I am curious how you are planning to proceed with your Hapsburg collection? Are you going for "OFER" (One From Every Reign) or trying for different types/denominations from the latest reigns? Silver but no bronze?

Those Hapsburgs go back pretty far
By chance, I have a few because they show up in my Duchy of Brabant collection (Charles V, Maria Theresa), and in my Silesian coins (Ferdinand III, Leopold and Charles VI)

As you've probably discovered, Leopold's coins in particular can be obtained in high grade (for 300 years old) at good prices, if you're willing to settle for smaller sizes.

Yeah the Habsburg go back like 850 years, so right now the plan is to do a type set of non gold coins from Francis II/I till the Empire collapsed. That might change, since I am making a list of every non gold coin from Maria Theresa onwards (1740-1918), I gotten through like 10 years of her reign, 1741-1751, and there are already 72 different coins.

Also looking at the Austrian Netherlands for another type set. Since the Habsburgs were pretty much on a silver standard for most of the time period I am looking at, most of the coins are silver with a handful of copper and gold coins thrown in.

I took a picture of the list. Again this is only the first 10 years of Maria Theresa rule. They could not make up their mind on the design

Could be a life-long project if you go for one of every type .

Yes, definitely look to "Austrian Netherlands" (18th century Belgium) for some of them. I've got a nice Maria Theresa half thaler from there, and Joseph thaler.

But that's because I collect Low Countries, and not Austria (It's still Hapsburg).

That is a much easier set as it is only around 50.

Do you happen to have any good reference books for Austrian Netherland coins? I just went on numista, to the section on Austrian Netherlands and just copied the data onto a spread sheet.
